Imagine biting into a crunchy, juicy apple. You hear a snap and your tooth breaks. Oh no! What a nightmare. Your local dentist says you need a crown and to see a specialist but how do you choose? Chances are you’ll pick the person they recommend, the one with lots of accreditations after their name, rather than a random doctor who’s simply offering a cut-price deal.

You see where we’re going with this?! You’d take time to pick someone who knew what they were doing and it’s no different with your car either. If you’ve been in an accident and need a repair, picking an accredited company can reap dividends and avoid additional repairs down the line.

Accreditation: It’s Not Sexy But It Matters

Accreditation isn’t something many of us get excited about but when it comes to car repair it’s a big deal. Going to a garage which is accredited by official bodies as opposed to going to one that isn’t is like chalk and cheese.

One will give you an industry-standard repair backed by guarantees and first-class customer service, the other might if you’re lucky, but equally could hand you back a car which isn’t fit for purpose.

So, before you choose a garage for your repair make sure you check out the accreditations and qualifications. If they are numerous, the chances are you’re onto a winner.

Four Reasons Why Accreditation Is So Important

It’s more than just a nice certificate hanging on the waiting room wall. Accident vehicle repair accreditation signifies:

  1. They operate at the highest standards of safety – Modern cars are full of complex systems like crumple zones and advanced driver assistance systems. If a repair isn’t done correctly these systems might not work as they should in another crash. Accredited repairers follow strict processes to ensure your vehicle meets all structural integrity and safety requirements.
  2. High quality repairs – Anyone can say they do great repairs but accreditations back that up with evidence. They’re regularly audited and must meet consistent standards.
  3. It can protect your warranty – If your vehicle is still under warranty, using a non-approved repairer could void it. Many car manufacturers will only recognise repairs carried out by accredited companies.
  4. Peace of mind for you – Vehicle repairs can be confusing, and you’re not expected to know about welding certifications or calibration standards. With accreditation you don’t have to – you can feel confident your car is being repaired to the highest standards.

Accident Vehicle Repair Key Accreditations

So, what are the ones you should look out for you may well ask. Well, while this list isn’t comprehensive these are the key ones to be aware of:

VBRA (Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association)

  • Recognised industry body setting standards for workmanship, safety, and service
  • Members must follow a strict code of conduct

BS10125 (British Standard for Vehicle Body Repair)

  • The gold standard for safe, high-quality car body repairs in the UK
  • Covers repair processes, staff competency, equipment, and materials

IMI Accreditation (Institute of the Motor Industry)

  • Certification for individual technicians demonstrating their skills and knowledge
  • Includes specialist EV repair and ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems)

PAS 2060 (Carbon Neutrality)

  • Optional, but increasingly important
  • Shows commitment to sustainability and carbon-neutral operations

Responsible and trusted auto repair centres may also have manufacturer approval for specific makes and models. They may also receive specific insurer approval which means they are vetted and monitored by the insurer to meet their standards.

EvolveArc is registered with the IMI, VBRA-approved, has BS10125 and is working towards achieving PAS 2060 accreditation.
